Conventional ground-heating technologies face various limitations in terms of energy efficiency, economic feasibility, and environmental impact. To address these issues, this study investigated edge-oxidized graphene oxide (EOGO), which has high electrical and thermal conductivity, as a conductive additive to geomaterials for enhanced Joule-heating performance. This study aimed to develop a granular heating material that can generate heat immediately without requiring a separate curing process. EOGO content and applied voltage were selected as experimental variables, and temporal temperature changes and surface heat distributions were measured. The results showed that heating performance increased with increasing EOGO content and applied voltage. A noticeable temperature rise occurred at an EOGO content of ~2wt%, indicating the onset of conductive network formation. This study experimentally demonstrated the practical potential of the EOGO–sand composite as a granular heating material that can be installed and recovered without the use of a binder. The findings provide baseline data for developing ground-heating applications, including road deicing, agricultural soil heating, and infrastructure construction in cold regions.
